Jyothika, Siddharth Give Shout Out To 'Real Superstar' Mammootty

Mammootty is one of the stalwarts of Malayalam cinema. He has entertained the audience for long with his exceptional acting prowess. His colleagues, actors Jyothika and Siddharth, also affirmed this in a Film Companion roundtable recently. Jyothika said that Mammootty is the “real hero, the real superstar of South Indian cinema”. Siddharth also agreed with her opinion. Jyothika said, “I have acted with most of the South Indian superstars. But I can’t help but say that Mammootty is the real superstar. When I met him for the first time when he went to act in Kaathal, I asked, ‘Sir, how did you choose such a role?’ Mammootty replied, ‘Who is the real hero? A real hero should not be someone who just goes and beats up villains, does action or acts in romantic scenes, but also solves problems and fills gaps’.”

Mammootty and Jyothika’s film Kaathal – The Core was released on the big screens on November 23, 2023. The film has fared well at the box office and received accolades for almost all aspects. The audience applauded Mammootty and Jyothika for leaving a lasting impression with their characters. According to the viewers, Kaathal – The Core makes for an intriguing watch on the topic of LGBTQ. Anagha Akku, Alex Alister, Josey Sijo, and others also acted in this movie. Mammootty Kampany and Wayfarer Films have produced Kaathal – The Core.

Kaathal – The Core courted controversy when it was banned in Kuwait and Qatar. According to reports, the film’s subject (homosexuality) was said to be the reason behind the ban.

Looking ahead, Mammootty has a good lineup of films besides Kaathal – The Core. He is slated to act in Turbo, Bazooka, Bilal, Yatra 2 and others. Amongst these films, Yatra 2 has caused great fervour amongst the audience. Mammootty will essay the role of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in this film. YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Mammootty had tweeted a glimpse of this movie on October 9.

Yatra 2 will be released at the cinema halls on February 8, 2024. Mahi V Raghav has written and directed this film.
