Lewis Hamilton’s much-talked-about move to Ferrari has sparked a hilarious reaction from French professional racer Romain Grosjean.

After innumerable speculations, it was finally confirmed on Thursday that this would be Hamilton’s last season with Mercedes. The shocking news of the British driver leaving has taken the racing world by surprise triggering reactions from several racers.

Grosjean is one such fellow racer who, in a chucklesome Instagram post, wrote that he should take the opportunity of filling in Hamilton’s shoes at Mercedes.

Grosjean’s cheeky post included a picture of him along with a caption that read, “Maybe time to give a phone call to Toto”. ‘The person that the racer is referring to is the Australian billionaire Toto Wolff who also holds a 33 percent stake in Mercedes.

An F1 news account on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has termed Romain Grosjean’s post as the best reaction to Lewis Hamilton’s shocking move. The comment read, “Best reaction of “Lewis to Ferrari” day goes to Romain Grosjean”.

Several fans have now reacted to the post with one of them suggesting that Romain Grosjean needs a test first. He wrote, “Grosjean still needs his Mercedes F1 test”.

While another social media user joked that the test wouldn’t be coming soon enough. “That Mercedes test can’t come soon enough,” read the comment.

One fan jokingly suggested Romain Grosjean’s move to Mercedes could lead the car company to deal with a massive repair bill. “That would be one hell of a repair bill come the end of the season”.

“Knew he’d do this”, joked another fan.

Lewis Hamilton’s contract sees him tied to Mercedes until 2025. He recently activated a release clause in his contract and is now set to replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has reportedly signed a “multi-year” contract with Ferrari.

As for Romain Grosjean, he is currently competing under the French flag, driving in the NTT IndyCar Series. Grosjean had to cut his career short after luckily escaping a frightening fireball accident at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2020. The racer has not competed in a Grand Prix since but was reportedly approached by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. The billionaire was understood to have offered Grosjean to move to Mercedes after a test outing in their machinery.
