The Western Railway is taking a significant step to enhance Mumbai‘s suburban rail network.
They’ve just announced a ten-hour special traffic block to make way for crucial work on the 6th line that will connect Khar Road and Goregaon stations.
This temporary suspension of services will take place on the night of October 26 and 27, starting at 00.30 am and wrapping up at 10.30 am.
During this special block, suburban services operating between Andheri and Goregaon will be unavailable. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly.
The last local train departing from Mumbai CSMT for Goregaon will leave at 22.54 pm on October 26, while the last train from Goregaon to Mumbai CSMT will depart at 12.07 am on October 27.
Upon completion of the traffic block, the first suburban train heading to Goregaon from Mumbai CSMT is expected to leave at 11.16 am. Simultaneously, the first local train from Goregaon to Mumbai CSMT will commence at 11.23 am.
Earlier this week, the Western Railway had already disclosed the cancellation of nearly 2,525 local train services until November 6, owing to ongoing construction work initiated on October 7 for the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations. Among these cancellations, 230 to 316 Up (towards Churchgate) and Down (towards Virar/Dahanu) suburban trains will be affected daily. Furthermore, 93 locals will be canceled on November 4, and 110 on November 5.
The Harbour Line, under the administration of the Central Railways, is undergoing these critical enhancements, which are being executed by the Western Railway. This project aims to ensure a complete separation between mail or express trains and local trains, thereby enhancing the carrying capacity of the local train network.
The 30-kilometer extension of the 6th line, stretching from Mumbai Central to Borivli, is projected to cost Rs 918 crore, according to reports from Times of India.
